    FIRM HISTORY

           FITTS, OLSON and GIDDINGS

Osmer C. Fitts founded the general practice law office in Brattleboro in the 1940's when he returned to Vermont from military service in Europe.  The partnership, Fitts & Olson, was formed in 1955 when Osmer Fitts became a partner with Paul N. Olson, who had been associated with Mr. Fitts since 1948.

The late Osmer C. Fitts was a Chair of the American Bar Association House of Delegates and former President of the Association of Insurance Attorneys.  He was committed to training new attorneys and many attorneys in Southern Vermont, including a number of future judges, clerked under his tutelage.

The late Paul N. Olson was known throughout New England as a referral on tax and estate planning, a practice area for which the firm continues to be recognized.  He was also a dedicated patron of music and education. Over the years the firm has represented more than 25,000 individuals, businesses, and non-profit organizations.

Fitts & Olson is the oldest continuously operating law association in Brattleboro.  The firm has been located in its historic building at 16 High Street in downtown Brattleboro since the 1950’s.  Brattleboro is located on the Connecticut River in the southeastern portion of Windham County, Vermont, bordering New Hampshire and 8 miles from the Massachusetts border.
