Jean Brewster Giddings

Jean received her A.B. with Distinction from Mount Holyoke College in 1971.  She received her Juris Doctorate from Case Western Reserve University Law School in 1977 where she was an Editor of the Case Western Reserve Law Review and a member of the Order of the Coif.

Jean began working for Fitts, Olson & Giddings in 1977 as a law clerk, and became an Associate in 1978.  Jean was recognized as one of the first 100 women to be admitted to practice in Vermont.  In 1980 she became a Partner, and is now a Member of the firm.  Admitted to practice law in Vermont and New Hampshire, her primary areas of practice are elder law and estate planning, real estate, family law, taxation, and business law and transactions.  She is past president of the Windham County Bar Association, is a current member of the Vermont Civil Rules Committee, and also serves on the Vermont Professional Conduct Program Hearing Panel.  Jean has also served with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Windham County, the Arts Council of Windham Counts, Community Action Brattleboro Area (CABA), Putney Family Services, and the Brattleboro Music Center.  Jean resides with her family in Putney, Vermont.


Lorie A. Cartwright

Lorie is a graduate of Vermont Law School where she received her Juris Doctorate in 2002.  She received her B.B.A. degree from Stetson University in Business Administration, 1991, DeLand, Florida.


Lorie began working for Fitts, Olson & Giddings as an Associate in 2005.  She is admitted to practice law in Vermont (2003) and in the United States District Court, District of Vermont (2006).  She concentrates in the areas of Bankruptcy, Family Law, Real Estate, Juvenile Law, and Collections.


Lorie is an elected member of the Brattleboro Union High School Board.  She lives in West Brattleboro with her daughter, and enjoys hiking, traveling, and reading.


Laurie A. Rowell

Laurie joined Fitts, Olson & Giddings in 2008.  She received her B.A. from the University of Massachusetts - Amherst in American History and is a 1990 graduate, cum laude, of the University of Dayton School of Law.  At Dayton she was a member of the Law Review Board of Editors, clerked with several Dayton Law firms and a trial judge as well as serving as a teaching assistant and supervisor of the school’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.  After graduation from college and before entering law school Laurie worked with the Defense Intelligence Agency in Washington, D.C. as an imagery analyst in the field of chemical and biological warfare.


Laurie has practiced law in Vermont since 1991.  Her practice areas include probate administration, elder law, estate planning, municipal law, real estate, corporate law, property tax and family law.


Laurie is involved in local and state politics.  Laurie was appointed by the Governor as Chair of the state’s Valuation Appeal Board.  She served as Chair of the Board of Listers in the Town of Rockingham and worked to pass legislation to support the Town's valuation of the hydro-electric plant in the Village of Bellows Falls.  As a lister Laurie played a key role in successfully defending two appeals challenging the Grand List value of the plant.  She also helped to establish a successful political action committee which galvanized public participation in a landmark town-wide vote (and re-vote) regarding the proposed purchase by the town of the hydroelectric generating plant and its seventy-four year lease to two Canadian power companies.


Laurie resides in Saxtons River with her husband and three children on property that has been in the family for over a century.


David M. Schultz

David received his B.A. from Boston University in 1985, and in 2000 he received his Juris Doctorate with honors and LL.M. in Asian and Comparative Law from the University of Washington’s School of Law.

Before joining Fitts, Olson & Giddings in 2010, David spent over seventeen years working and studying in Japan. His first career was in television news, producing reports for Tokyo-based correspondents with NBC News and the BBC. After graduating from law school and joining the Washington State Bar Association, David returned to Tokyo to work for Abe, Wada & Watanabe, a law firm that counsels multinational companies on their business dealings in Japan. There David worked on matters such as the establishment and dissolution of subsidiaries, labor and employment issues, and trademark and brand protection. Since moving from Tokyo to Vermont in 2006, David has been translating legal documents from Japanese to English for clients located in Japan. At Fitts, Olson & Giddings, in addition to consulting regarding matters of international law, David concentrates in the areas of residential and commercial real estate and other transaction work, probate and estate administration, and general litigation.
